The principle: local first
Welva does not require an account and does not display advertising. The information you enter stays, by default, on your device and in your personal iCloud. Some features listed below need to send data to our service. We describe them precisely and do not collect anything beyond what they require.
Data stored on your device
The following data stays on your device and in your iCloud without passing through our servers:
- your body measurements, including chest, waist, hips, arms and thighs;
- your weight and weight history;
- your nutrition journal, including meals, calories and macros;
- your progress photos, which never leave your device;
- the dates and times attached to these records.
Deleting the app permanently removes this data from your device.
When data leaves your device
Three features, and only these features, send data to our service:
1. Meal photo analysis
When you use photo analysis, the meal photo is sent to our service to identify foods and estimate portions. The photo is then deleted. It is not stored permanently, used to train models, shared or sold.
2. Report narratives (Welva+)
To write personalized weekly and monthly report summaries, only aggregate statistics are sent to our service. These may include a weight change, an average calorie intake or a detected correlation. Raw daily data and photos are never sent. The statistics are not retained after the text is generated.
3. Synchronization with an assistant (off by default)
Welva can synchronize some health data with our service so that an assistant you connect can read it. This feature is off by default. Synchronization only starts if you enable it explicitly, and you can turn it off at any time.
Welva+ subscriptions
Apple manages Welva+ subscriptions through the App Store. Welva only receives your subscription status, active or inactive. Welva does not process or see payment data such as card numbers or bank details.
Apple Health and Withings
With your explicit permission, Welva syncs with Apple Health for weight, measurements, nutrition and workouts, and imports Withings weigh-ins. Your device and the relevant accounts manage these exchanges under your control. You can withdraw permission at any time in your device settings.
Anonymous usage statistics
We may collect anonymous app usage statistics, such as whether a feature is enabled, to improve Welva. These statistics do not include body measurements or any information that could identify you.
Support form
When you contact us through the support form on this site or in the app, we receive your email address, your message and, when sent from the app, the app and operating system versions. We use this information only to reply. It is kept while we handle your request, then deleted. It is never shared or used for another purpose.
Your rights under the GDPR
The data controller is Dimitri Robière Perriet. The legal basis for processing by our service is performance of the service you request for photo analysis and reports, and your consent for optional synchronization.
- Access, correction and deletion: most data is local, so you can view, edit and delete it directly in the app. Deleting the app removes it completely.
- Processing by our service: photos and report statistics are not retained, so there is nothing left to delete afterward. Contact us with any request.
- Right to object: you can stop using photo analysis, turn off AI-written narratives or disable synchronization with an assistant at any time.
Security
Your device security protects local data. Exchanges with our service are encrypted in transit. We deliberately limit transmitted data to what each feature strictly requires.
Changes
We may update this policy, particularly as the app changes. The date at the top of this page identifies the current version. We will notify you in the app if a change is significant.
